Prints have been around for decades, from art nouveau and cubism prints of the 1900s. To the gingham in the 1920s. For instance, think of Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz! Furthermore, Christian Dior was the first designer to use houndstooth in his couture. In conclusion, Paisley, tie-dye, animal prints, grunge plaid and camo are a few other examples of prints that dominated a decade each!

This season, it’s the turn of the geometric print to take over as the pattern of 2021! From checks and tartans to houndstooth and diamonds, it’s a tessellated trance!

Designer’s Edge

The runway was abuzz with heavy repetitive prints and loads of tessellation! Valentino for instance, displayed their Foulard Archive print, bold and geometric, on heavy coats! Karl Lagerfeld, however, had a monochromatic approach to a tessellated diamond print on co-ord sets. Whereas for Jil Sander, it was a kaleidoscopic appeal, with repeated cube patterns on maxi dresses. However, Prada played with colours and motifs on body-hugging ensembles!

Likewise, Stella McCartney chose tiny houndstooth for stuffy jackets combined with bodysuits with angular motifs. However, Versace maxed out with their signature geometric monogram and baroque motifs in tessellated formats for a chic n’ preppy style! Ferragamo for instance, too was a lover of tessellated prints this season! However, Dolce & Gabbana chose patterns in bold shades for breezy summer dresses! Lastly at Dior, Alice + Olivia and Chanel, there was a super chic meets edgy vibe in plaid, checks and houndstooth.

Celebrity Angle

It’s a party of prints with the A-listers too! Dua Lipa was radiant in red. With a head-to-toe Versace monogram pattern. However, Yara Shahidi opted for a yellow combo! Furthermore, Kendall Jenner chose a bodysuit in tight tartan. In the meantime, Jenifer Aniston wore a block print pantsuit with a retro feel and drop-dead gorgeous! JLo also was all about monochromatic houndstooth love. Lastly, Paris Hilton opted for a mix and match print bonanza!

Bollywood Beauties Esha Gupta and Genelia D’Souza stunned in pretty tessellated prints! However, Anaita Shroff Adajania and Huma Qureshi styled bold triangles. In addition, Janhvi Kapoor looks edgy in a repeat criss-cross diamond pattern. Similarly, Alaya F chose an assortment of squares in a red and blue combo!
