They’re Coco Chanel’s signature look. A symbol of wisdom. Associated with wealth and high status. With countless customs and stories spun around their existence. They are Pearls. Luminescent in appearance, divine as can be. The oh-so classic statement for every fashionista. This season, let’s delve into the reemergence of the Pearl as the statement piece for every It Girl!

Designer’s take

Designers, too, are bent on capturing the Pearl iridescence on the runway. From Jil Sanders to Moschino, it was a rain of pearls! For Dior, it was pearl-embellished collars that defined a dark romantic edge. Au Naturale with a hint of luxe was prominent with the natural pearls at Jil Sander. On the other hand, Miss Sohee was all about the EXTRA sheen with iridescent hues and OTT silhouettes, all decorated with the round pearl magic.

An old school Hollywood glam was the look at Moschino with rows of pearls, reminiscent of Holly Golightly. And Rodarte played around the tune of minimalism with luminescent buttons, while Simone Rocha added a touch of iridescence to leather and frills. A shoutout to The Blonds for showcasing a nothing but pearls corseted look. Oh-so extra! And a special mention to Prabal Gurung with his shoulder-duster tassel earrings in pearls that were the finishing touch to his AW21 looks!

Celebrity style

A trend so chic, even the A-listers couldn’t keep away! Nothing but pearls looks strutted around with Barbie Ferreira in a tassel tale look at the Met Gala, Emma Corrin in a surreal beaded fantasy and Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall in full 1960s glamour. For Lilly Collins and Lady Gaga it was pearl headwear with a bucket hat and hair accessories galore. As for Fran Drescher and Alicia Silverstone, it was pearly white buttons, the minimalistic way.

Even Bollywood glammed up with some pearl magic. Sonam Kapoor, as always, added a classy edge to her chic sophistique style with a string o’ pearls. In contrast, Malaika Arora donned a couple of layers of the ocean’s gems! Khushi Kapoor went high on the accessories with a pearl bag. And sister Janhvi Kapoor stunned in a skirt adorned with pearly tassels!
