Take a magic carpet ride into a land far, far away this Autumn-Winter 2021 as a fairytale kind of mood sets over. Designers and celebrities alike have fallen under its spell, with fashion that’s inspired right from the tales of old! Gowns, sequins, frills & ruffles, florals and even exaggerated sleeves it’s all here, complete with a twist of surrealism. Just the trend we need to escape from our current reality to a dreamland we love.
Designer’s Fairytale Fantasy
From Dior’s gothic fairytale complete with hefty ruffles and embellishes to Giambattista Valli’s crisp white gowns, it was a charming affair for fashion this season. Naeem Khan, too, hopped in on the trend with his take on florals with gowns in sheer covered in breathtaking embroideries. Oscar de la Renta, on the other hand, spun a magical tale in serene white. As for Viktor & Rolf, it was a satirical story full of exaggerated gem embellishes.
Zimmermann, too, revelled in a fluttering fantasy with some puffed sleeves and dreamy prints to pair! Rahul Mishra, as usual, let his aesthetical senses shine with tons of surreal textures and patterns that captured his interpretation of Sicily in an oh-so mystical manner.
Balenciaga’s first couture show in decades was a significant event in fashion this season, and let’s just say that it was definitely an embellished affair, worthy of the wait!
Celebs Cast a Spell
The A-listers had us all charmed this season with outfits that looked as if straight out of a fairytale! From Billie Eilish’s sweet princess posing at the Met Gala 2021 to Jennifer Hudson’s ethereal performance in a poofy gold ball gown for the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda Show, all had us hypnotized! Anya Taylor Joy looked like a princess, pretty in pink in head-to-toe Dior at the Venice Film Festival. Meanwhile, Lily Collins was a stunning bride in a caped wedding gown, complete with exquisite lace. Bella Hadid added some oomph in an ombre pink puffed dress with a train.
And let’s not forget Dua Lipa’s fairytale costume for her latest music video. Or Kitty Spencer in her floral Dolce gowns, a pastel perfect dream to witness. Something that transported us into a mystical fable.
But wait, there’s more! Bollywood, too decided to dip into the fairytale charm. For starters, Rhea Kapoor was a surreal vision in a white dress paired with a balloon-sleeved cape. In contrast, Yami Gautam looked like a goddess on earth in a blue lamé dress with a thigh-high slit. Jennifer Winget was sprightly as ever in a pearl hued ruffled gown in lace, finishing her look with beaded hair accessories. And Janhvi Kapoor created a whimsical fantasy meets old school Hollywood glam look in a black slinky dress and gloves paired with diamond bracelets! Talking of bling, the beauty Aditi Rao Hydari chose to pair some sparkle with a champagne hue, stunning as can be.
