Beaded, glitter, monochromatic, metallic and even in leather and fur. Fringe is in this season, and like you’ve never seen before!
Autumn Winter 2021 takes a spin on the century-old fashion of fringe. Popularised by the flapper ladies of the 1920s, fancy trims are making a comeback this season. And it’s not just your basic trend this time either. A twirl here and a twist there, this swish swashing trend appears in a new light to behold! Do we dare dive into this fringing fever? Yes, please!
As bold as this trend is, this season, it takes a toned down route. With a lil’ bit o glitter glam here and there, the focus lies more on the muted shades and monochromatic colour schemes. From materials like leather, suede and even knits, it’s a trim-tastic utopia we all are loving!
Designer’s Fringe It Up
From Oscar de la Renta to Virgil Abloh, the frayed trims has a designer fanbase this season for sure. Be it Georges Hobeika’s cord trims paired with some spectacular tailoring. Or Ashish’s disco bling fringe binge. It’s a fashion affair to be roped in. Alice + Olivia’s muted metallic silver frayed fringed jackets are one to watch out for as well.
On the other hand, Oscar de la Renta added a Native American touch with some caftans. Alberta Ferretti was going for gold with shimmering skirts and trousers abundant with the fray. In contrast, Dolce & Gabbana went silver chic. As for Etro, it was old wild west with a hint of gothic charm. Plan C added a pop of colour with a side of the frayed trim. And Off-White put in the streetwear smart with some leather in, well, white! Paired with a casual tee, it was signature Virgil Abloh. Up and coming designer Cristina Savulescu was all about beads, oh so flapper style.
Fringe With The Celebs
Celebrities were, too, taken with the fringe fever. Dua Lipa’s ensemble with motifs from the anime One Piece, finished with a touch of feathery black fringe, made a quirky statement. Similarly, Dakota Johnson was the centre of attention at Venice Film Festival’s Red Carpet in a beaded, shimmery, slinky silver number! JLo and Alexandria Daddario, too, opted to go for the glittering glow, the former in a body-hugging jumpsuit, leaving us starstruck. Popstar Rosalia was a stunner in magenta trims at the 2021 Met Gala, all clad in leather! Emily Ratajkowski rocked some beige trim at the Fenti carpet.
Bollywood beauties had a moment with this trend as well! Alaya F was glamourous as always in a metallic fringed skirt with a matching bra-top. At the same time, Huma Qureshi dazzled in tiered trims paired with some feathery sleeves. Tripti Dimri looked sumptuous in a slinky gown in deep garnet, twirling in pretty fringes!
