A trademark associated with royalty, frills have come a long way! From Shakespeare to Simone Rocha, these crinkly and wrinkly garment embellishments have made their mark as one of fashion’s favourite love affairs.
Designer Frills
Frills were in abundance on the runway this season. Designers couldn’t resist dabbling with voluminous layers with their crackling crinkles! From Dior to Rahul Mishra, runways echoed with each designer’s aesthetic melded with this elegant yet extravagant trend! For fashion’s darling Simone Rocha, it was a mix of deconstruction with sheer frills for voluminous grace. In contrast, Greta Constantine opted for skilfully crafted crisp layers.
On the other hand, the Indian fashion maestro choose the OTT way with ruched frills to the extreme! Talking of Indian designers, Gauri And Nainika flirted with sheer crepes and tulle for a light, breezy look. Dior directed an artful take with ombre shades in ocean green and a deep wine. Brought together by carefully crafted, tight tiered frills. A Shoutout to Ashish for adding a bit o’ sparkle to his extravagant silhouettes! And of course, Elie Saab elevated the elegance with a beautiful layer on top of layer look, almost resembling a coral dream.
Frilling with the Celebs
Celebs, too, seemed to flirt with frills this season! Lily Collins and Ashley park pranced in summery frills in the latest trailer of Emily In Paris. Meanwhile, Iris Apfel celebrated her 100th birthday decked in decadent layers of flounce! Actress Angella Bassett graced the 2021 red carpet of the Emmys in a subtle look with some statement frill. And Rosamund Pike was a vision in red at the Venice Film Festival! And let’s just admit that the MET Gala lit up when Karlie Kloss strode in a dress with a frill that was blooming like a rose! A special mention to Rita Ora in her cerulean blue frill top that gives us major summer vibes in the middle of autumn.
B-town had its own love affair with this tulle-heavy trend as well. Sonakshi Sinha was a stunner in a red suit with some frills on the sleeves. In contrast, Alaya F opted for a more subtle take in a matching set in mint green. Beauties Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan and Kritika Khurana, rocked some serious flounce in vibrant shades and loaded volume! And Sonam Kapoor, the fashion queen that she is, rocked a scarlet frill with complete fervour.
