Go OTT, pastel or print, the choices are endless! Bringing forth the fanciest and the ‘frilliest’ fashion trend, spring summer 2019 is going extravagant! Any guesses? Yes, we’re talking about ruffles! And in all forms too.

If you’ve been looking for that perfect trend to follow, we have one for you. Taking us back to our childhood and the Barbie dolls that we all collected, there’s an air of being Dolled Up. While the Disney Pixar movies didn’t let us down, there were also the princess stories. All in all, we’ve been prepping for this trend for ages and now’s our time to flaunt it all!

While there’s a need to pick something out for your fun and frolic evenings, you know what we’ll be suggesting. A trend made for all your evening wear needs (and red carpet feels in front of the mirror), ruffles are apt and enough to make a statement. Fashion aficionados like Marc Jacobs and Rodarte decided to not hold anything back. Presenting us with multi-layered ruffles, the global ramps and runways were walking with whipped cream swirls! While Marc Jacobs was inspired by the Elizabethan era and created ruffled necklines, Rodarte picked the Tulle and lace fabrics to create tiers of hemlines.

Ruffles? ‘Nough Said!

While Marc Jacobs was stunning the world with his zealous collection, other designers were surely not going to step back. With the mantra of ‘The Bigger The Better’, from Carolina Herrera to Molly Goddard and Marchesa, there was a barrage of all things ruffles, frills and twirls. While Carolina Herrera paired her ruffles with prints and contrast colours, Molly Goddard was all about keeping the spotlight on her towering silhouettes. Moving towards the pastel shades, Marchesa’s collection of cascading ruffles were definitely reminding us of waterfalls, while Jill Stuart’s magical combo of tulle, print and ruffles was creating a sheer vintage look that sent us back in time.

Over The Top was surely the call of the season, however, designers like Edeline Lee and Oscar de la Renta were ready to show off their ruffle side in all its subtlety. While Edeline Lee created trims out of this frivolous trend for a contrast, Oscar de la Renta created subtle layers in bright tones. With Christian Siriano’s ruffles with a bang of colour and Giambattista Valli’s ‘sheer’ love (pun intended), there was everything Ruffles could ask for.

‘The Bigger The Better’ – Said Every Fashionista

While the Spring Summer 2019 ramps and runways were making the front row drool, the fashion divas weren’t too far behind to grab this trend. From Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Vanessa Hudgens to Brie Larson, Rachel Weisz and Jennifer Lopez, the thrill of frills was undoubtfully catching up. The red carpets of the season had all the feels of the feminine yet fearless woman. But, ruffles weren’t done yet. Catching up on our home front, Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone to name a few, weren’t far behind in accepting this trend and taking it to an all new level.
