The Dotty fever has made a comeback and it’s not just with its playful vibes but also sheer elegance that was the 50s Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn fashion.
We’ve all seen Julia Roberts’ iconic role in Pretty Woman and completely fallen in love with her chic outfits (also Richard Gere). From lace to polka dots, the retro style had surely caught our eye and given us outfit goals for the decade. And it wasn’t too late after all! With Spring Summer 2019 bringing out the cool and outgoing vibe, the dots fit into this season’s theme perfectly. Carolina Herrera gave us major day out goals with her version of dots all over. Clashing with florals and dots of different sizes, the flowy dresses had an upbeat versatile look that blended the old and new perfectly. From pantsuits to floor length skirts, there was a pair-up for all summer looks.
Got the Hots for Dots Yet?
Although dots were seen in all colours and sizes, the main theme of the season was monochrome. Mixing the black and white shades, it was an elegant affair of patchworks, all over and sheer that caught the onlookers attention. With Escada taking Julia Roberts look quite seriously, the designer showcased a range of beige and pink shades while pairing it with stripes and bright sheen colours. A quintessential look, these structures designs brought out the expression of the modern woman who’s ready to conquer.
While Mother of Pearl played around with different dot sizes and pairing it with scarves, Burberry focused on texturizing pleated skirts with blazers. Alessandra Rich completely brought out the sophisticated look with day dresses and enormous pearls that were perfect for royalty (See: Kate Middleton). Y’s, on the other hand, layered with patchwork colours and colorblocked polka. The ramps were giving us the retro vibes with all the sophisticated feels. Koche also gave us pairing goals with lace additions, printed jumpsuits and flower chokers.
