AW 19/20: Slay it with Sleeves This Season! #Trendalert

After all the OTT love for all things black, feathers and neon colours, there’s room for some more, and this season, it’s all about the sleeves!

From layers to ruffles to hanging ones, the sleeve has taken over fashion like never before. Whether it was Marc Jacobs version of fabric and feather twirls or Rodarte’s feminine puffed and ruffles of sleeves, there was a whole lot of sleeve love on the ramps. In combination with other trends of the season, sleeves played a part with all the drama it could muster.

Dramatic Sleeves

Taking inspiration from the 70s era dressing, big sleeves made a comeback this season in their larger-than-life vibe. From bell-shaped, puffed, balloon to cold-shoulder, sleeves took the spotlight with their statement looks. Where J W Anderson combined the sleeve action with plaids and knitted fabrics, Roksanda’s collection was an ode to all bright colours and vibrant looks. Alexander McQueen too combined his love for black with curled sleeves creating a colour block.

Talking about the sci-fi romance, Rick Owens patchwork fur designs added a grunge look to a 70s fashion while Balenciaga’s big fur coat-big sleeve combo, that too in bright tones, was the perfect touch of colour for the winter skies. Simone Rocha’s play with print and sleeve layers proved to be the perfect blend of darkness and sensuality.

Khaite’s addition of mega-sized sleeves on every garment (and in every size) was the ideal autumn-winter look to go for. From balloon, layered to leg of mutton sleeves, there was a combination with cotton, knits, toile fabrics, there was one for all and all for one. Cong Tri also brought on the sleeve mania mixed with gowns that transported us to the red carpet. Whether it was a silver power sleeve or a black LBD with ruffled ones, there was a whole sleeve palette to choose from.

The Celeb’s Love of Sleeves

After the sleeve rage took over the ramps and runways and made jaws drop all around, the celebrities were more than ready to adapt this AW 19/20 trend for their casual to red carpet looks. From Radhika Apte’s recent IIFA award look to Aditi Rao Hydari’s walking for Pankaj Nidhi this Lakme Fashion Week, the sleeve play had definitely caught everyone up.

All About the Mega-Sized Sleeve Trend

Trend: Mega-Sized Sleeves

From Rodarte’s feminine lace sleeves to Caroline Herrera’s bright ruffled ones, there was a whole lot of colour on one side, while the other had a collective of Rick Owens and Alexander McQueen for a touch of colour and a whole lot of dark romance.
