One of the oldest colours in art history, yellow has been associated with sunlight, spring flowers and summer through the decades. Dating back to Ancient Egypt and Rome, the shade was also adapted as the Chinese imperial colour in the 6^th century. The colour has been correlated with the Sun God in countless religions, as well. An approved choice of royalty, it has been a part of every monarch’s wardrobe. The Oscar nominee film, La La Land, led the beginning of the yellow parade with Emma Stone’s dress – it proved to be A Lovely Night, after all .

Whether it is Etro’s super vibrant mix of colours and prints or Brandon Maxwell’s colourful solids, yellow was making a comeback this season in shades as bright and fresh as the sunlight. Ranging from Lemon Verbena, Marigold Yellow to Aspen Gold and Mango Mojito, the ramps were full of positive energy. From Moschino’s squiggles and power shoulder combo, Emilia Wickstead’s layered bow dress, to Rochas PU and feathers version, the hue saw a range of silhouettes. Defining the multifaceted woman of today, there was something for everyone. Carolina Herrera’s collection, on the other hand, was like a Spring greeting. With a series of yellow coats with a floral touch, skirts and off-shoulder dresses, the runway made us soak-in the warmth.

This vivid colour was not just for the bold, but also came up as minimal additions. While Givenchy’s collection displayed the importance of colour block with its subtle yellow pop-ups, Rodarte’s version had all the makings of a sunny yet feminine disposition. Balenciaga’s version of a shirt dress was a true testament to the woman of today – Trendy, relaxed and all set to go! All in all, yellow this season is not just an option for your day wear but also for your evening wear too.

As keen as the designers were to include this colour trend into their collections, the fabulous divas weren’t far behind either! From Jada Pinkett Smith flaunting her off-shoulder gown, Celine Dion with the power suit and Rita Ora in Escada’s striped wonder, there was a lot of brightness around. Our Bollywood stars weren’t too far behind with the shade. Madhuri Dixit, Kajol, Kriti Sanon, Alia Bhatt, Aditi Rao Hydari – you say the name and there’s a diva with the perfect yellow outfit. Go vivacious or go bold, there’s a lot to choose from.
