The countdown is about to begin! We’re about to enter the 4th week of December and ready to say goodbye to the year that was 2018! From pretty pastels to women empowerment, to bold neon and OTT fringes, this year had a part of Almost Everything.

While our Design Team has been giddy with the new year fashion (Read: Stay Tuned!) and channelizing their energy to celebrate with a Big Bang, the atmosphere is almost electric. Looking back at our studio, we’re talking about the trends of the year, the designers who went OTT and even the celebrity who wore it best. Catching up with our very own design expert, Deepshikha Gupta, VP Design at Melorra, we decided to take a look at the highs and the lows of the year. The trends that swept us off of the floor, definitely made our wardrobe’s vibrant and were absolutely bling-tastic!

Talking about the 4 trends that it started out with, the Autumn Winter had its focus on women empowerment, creating an archetype for the fashion leaders to represent. A season made of a vibrant mix of texture, print and ombre shades, it was an ode to the modern woman and her lifestyle:

AW 2018/19 Macro Trends

Cocoon

Inspired by the woman who likes to layer up and stay by herself, from Maison Margiela’s multi-coloured layering to Roksandra’s toned palette, the coziness was unbelievable.

Madame

This trend was a complement to the femininity, chic style and sophistication of all the ladies out there. Whether it was Michael Kors’s bouquet of flowers or Reem Acra’s celestial sheer pleats, it was indeed a colourful affair.

The Big Bang

Enthused by the #MeToo movement and the confidence of women, this trend celebrated the woman of today in all her shades and glory. When Jeremy Scott’s and Balmain’s fluorescent palette go totally Lit, the Winter is sure to look Bright!

Nostalgia

Going back to the past with the Denim-on-Denim trend and the love for Fringes, it’s the affection for the 70s that we are still reminiscing. Finding comfort in the good old times, this woman rejoices what has been.

From the various trends that come and go, there are a few that shine bright and bring out the fashion onto the street (and the red carpet, of course) and also, keep us intrigued with the ‘What’s Next’ question. While some are turning into staple pieces, there are a few that need more forms to show itself off!

Sequins

Talking about the Classic ones, this is surely making its way to everyone’s wardrobe. Starting from 2015, this trend has come back and again in various avatars and adding the right bling to the year, if we must say!

Scarf Print

Blending the eras of nostalgia and royalty, this trend continues to be a part of 2019 in a big way. Let’s just say it’s Queen Approved. A mix of prints and colours, this style is undeniably in the limelight.

Fringe

The charm of the dance floor is a part of this style. Implying fun, movements and panache, this trend highlights your individuality wholeheartedly.

Neon

The new trend of the season, it’s bright, bold and experimental in all its form. If you’re looking to create a statement with a head-to-toe or even a vibrant pair of shoes, it’s going to be the dazzling choice.

White

It’s about the Power Woman after all! With the social message of women empowerment, the white pantsuit was the highlight of the season. From Tom Ford to Dolce & Gabbana, ladies, take their lead and Suit Up!
