AW 19/20: The Bow Movement of the Season #Trendalert

This season brought us a whole lot of rebellion with women empowerment being talked about all across. And joining this talk, was our dear friend, bows, in an all new avatar.

The bow has always been known to showcase femininity, romance and a ladylike feature to any woman who wore it. But this time around, Autumn-Winter 2019/20 was bringing us a whole new version of it – thanks to Donald Trump and his blatant statements on women and sexual assault. Opposing those statements, women all around the world, embraced the bow in a new format, calling it a Pussy Bow and making it a lot more versatile, bold and ready to represent the 21st century.

Bows this season made a comeback in all formats. From being used as a print at Rodarte to giant bows on Valentino, there was a bow connection to make.

Bow Down to Bows

Bows became a part of a revolution this season with the ramps, runways, red carpets and street styles taking a stand all over. From neckties to hair accessories, bows could be seen around the globe. While Chanel and Emilia Wickstead used bows as hair accessories, Erdem and Roksanda made their case with giant bows. Erdem’s collection included larger than life bows across on the neck as well as multiple bow motifs in contrasting shades.

Richard Quinn too joined the bow parade with his collection of prints and colour-blocking bows. Carolina Herrera used the bow as an accessory by tying them across the waist of a monochrome pant-suit, adding a pop of colour. While Christian Cowan had the bow going in all their glitter and neon formats. Vivienne Westwood’s collection made the bows no longer prim and proper but messy and haphazard, just like the rebel bow it is!

Marc Jacobs, Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana and Alessandra Rich, too were all set to have their say in this bow matter. Needless to say, the bow has seen it all this year. From making a statement to a subtle addition, the bow is a part of all and every mood this season.

All Tied Up in a Bow

After the designers showcased their love for bows worldwide, it was time for celebrities to show it off. While Melanie Trump surely got some cheer points for flaunting her style, the British royalty wasn’t so far behind either. From Kate Middleton to Tracee Ellis Ross and Jennifer Lopez in the Golden Globes this season, the bow is trending for all looks.

One of our favourites? The Maison Valentino bow dress that IS Elle Fanning’s colour and the pretzel is just the perfect add-on.

Maison Valentino proved to be a popular choice for all celebrities this season with Lily James, Janet Mock, Adut Akech Bior and Emilia Clarke, adding a Valentino bow. Celine Dion’s walking the dog look is probably hitting the top charts while Lady Gaga’s red carpet bow accessory and bow belt are giving us bow dreams. And how can we forget, Kylie Jenner in a gift-wrapped statement bow…there’s nothing else to add to that.

The Indian cinema wasn’t too far behind with their bow beats. Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, and Kareena Kapoor led the bow rule with Kangana Renaut, Shraddha Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, Bhumi Padnekar and Aditi Rao Hydari marching on the beat.

Our favourite? Aditi Rao Hydari’s Christmas post showcasing the red bow, the perfect gift wrap. Shraddha Kapoor’s checkered black and white print too, had us gawking.
