There’s a new clothing game-changer in town with knots, stitches and Summery flows! Any guesses? It’s the era of the Scarf! And NOT in an accessory format. Scarf, scarf everywhere and not just in the hair or air. Scarves this Spring-Summer 2020 have taken a turn towards mainstream clothing. In all it’s print and quirky formats, this season it’s all about the drapes and wearing them as clothes rather than accessories. From pants to tops to even dresses, there’s a scarf realigned for all looks. This silky addition is being called the ‘Scarf Dressing’ which is the new street-style to make way for. Fasten it, Knot it or Dress it up! The ramps and runways were going head-over-heels with this trend! While Burberry was adding on these silky flows to formals and neutrals, Erdem was all about the print play. Combining various print patterns and colours together, it was a…

Cut it short! This Spring-Summer 2020, Bermudas are back in all their work to party styling. A twist on the classic suit, this season it’s about being part 9-5 ready and part California-cool. Designers too added their individuality to this trend. While Alberta Ferretti combined on-the-road feels to work, Brandon Maxwell added blazers to short shorts. Chloe’s collection showcased layering, while Givenchy went with knee-length Bermudas & blazers – the kind of cool cut we need. (See: Trend Alert) Now while all the ramps, runways and red carpets were donning this confident and voguish trend, we too were quite ready to present our take! Inspired by these tailored styles and baggy shorts, we’ve…

‘Cut it Short’, ‘Short cuts’ and ‘cool cuts’ have been the call of the ramps this Spring-Summer 2020. After all the biker shorts rage that we saw last season, there’s a new version in town! The Bermuda suits! This season workwear took a turn towards the casual-cool vibe with a Bermuda trend. Also known as mom shorts, these usually hover around the knee and is THE vacation outfit since the 40s. This trend took off during the 30s and 40s where this style was in sync with the yachting, resorting lifestyle of the elite. During the same time, Claire McCardell translated these styles for activities like gardening and exercise. These shorts came under the limelight during the 50s again, in full plaid form for grad students. Not that’s versatility at it’s best! Shout out to the 90s kids, where Laura Dern is wearing a khaki ensemble while she runs away…

A Modern Twist to Classic Bangles! #MustHaves

A symbol of good fortune, good vibes and good energy, bangles have been an imperative part of the Indian culture. And they’re not just the talk of the past! Showing off a whole new side, bangles are taking a modern twist! And we’re its happy helper. Did you know that the sound of bangles was said to keep the unwanted negative energy at bay? A jingling that we heard on our mother’s arms, it’s a sound that we’re all quite familiar with. Originating from the Mohenjo-Daro civilization, bangles have been around for centuries in different materials like wood, beads, glass and even seashells. Depicted in numerous sculptors, they have been constant in the accessories department. And for good measure. As per Ayurveda, the friction of gold and silver bangles on women’s wrist were considered to toughen up their bones! Becoming a global spectacle, bangles have now been adopted by Western culture…

Let the watercolours take over! Spring Summer 2020 is back with tie-dye, in all it’s ombre shades! Tie and dye made a comeback this season in all its bright hues, patchwork and all over effects! But what’s the difference you ask? This season it has a watercolour effect, unlike last year’s patterned ones. No patterns, no designs, just splashes of colour for your new look! Inspired by the DIY community and 70s styling, of course, this trend has a hippie touch to it with faded shades and hallucinogenic finishes. This trend became a way of self-expression for many individuals in the 1960s. A simple, inexpensive and more importantly, a unique trend that could be created right in your backyard! Colour – It – Yourself this Season! With all the colours raging this Spring, the ramps were surely having a gala time. While Longchamp showcased ombre shading on pleated dresses, Prabal…

The 70s era was essentially a time of self-expression, anti-war movements, hippies and how can we forget – Disco. After all the blunders of 60s, the youth was ready to maximalize their clothes and their expressions with it too. Music was one such stream that influenced fashion in a big way. The 1970s became a musical bridge for the…

SS ’20 The Raffia Weave: From the Designer’s Desk

While sustainable and ethical are clearly the call of the season, there’s a new fabric on the ramps – Raffia. An African inspiration for this Spring, this trend was not just for clothing, but all accessories too! Giving it a head-to-toe look, Oscar de la Renta added bags and dresses with floral patterns while Dolce and Gabbana dyed the fabric and created dresses and skirts. Raffia took a turn this season from its conventional methods and adopted a modern silhouette. While this fabric trend was moving all across the ramps and red carpets, our designer too, was feeling inspired. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes! What is this material exactly? Raffia material basically comes from the Raffia palm leaves found in the Madagascar region. These leaves are first dried, created into strands and woven together to make a fabric. Raffia is also known as Kuba clothing in Africa and was traditionally woven…

SS ’20 Eco-Conscious: From the Designer’s Desk

Sustainable, ethical, eco-conscious, are no longer just words but have transformed into what we call fashion today. Spring Summer 2020 gave us a whole macro trend of Climate Change. With designers showcasing their take on recycling, reusing and upcycling, it was about saving our environment. And more than that, it was about leaving a better world for our future generations, than just stories! While Vivienne Westwood’s quote of – ‘Buy Less, Make it Last’ echoed through, her collection included squiggly prints & mishmash shirting made from leftovers fabrics. Tiziano Guardini showcased his Atlantis inspiration with wavy patterns in cruelty-free silk and impressions of the sea.  On the other hand, Marine Serre incorporated recycled plastic for her theme. From accessories to clothes, everything was recycled. While all the ramps had a thing to say and contribute, we too were inspired to take a stand! So here we are sitting down with…

With the increasing pollution and the changing climate, there’s been a lot of things. And this season took inspiration and called out its support for just that. Fashion got increasingly conscious this season and decided to take a more sustainable route. With lesser productions, streamlined shows, recycling and upcycling materials, the atmosphere was raw. However, they also showed us that anything is possible. The Sustainable Storytellers London Fashion Week became the first ‘positive fashion’ platform for sustainability, with new brands and designers showcasing their takes. Vivienne Westwood’s quote – ‘Buy less, choose well, make it last’, was very evident in her collection this season. With unused fabrics, squiggle patterns and panelled shirts, there was a medley of…
