SS’20: Eat, Sleep, Crochet, Repeat! #TrendAlert

This is not your grandmother’s crochet! I repeat, this is Not your grandmother’s crochet!

Times a-changin’ and so are the styles and this Spring Summer we are revisited with another handmade trend. Any guesses so far? Let us break it to you, it’s crochet! And on top of that, no longer the boring old-school form, but in a complete new breezy avatar!

A part of the 70s era, crochet has had a rep of being the arena of grannies and even textile nerds. But this season, they were all set to make a comeback with a whole handmade, handspun vibe! Forget chunky weaves! it’s about loose knits colours that remind us of ice cream and a total -perfect-for-the-beach mood.

Crafting in Crochet

Crochet was headlining on the ramps! After all the quilting vibes a few seasons back, who was the star this season? It was the art of crochet. Evolving into a new-age feminine yet appealing outfits, it was about bra tops, loosely knit ponchos and lace-like dresses. Nothing was out of bounds and everything was in! Dior on one hand had combined crochet bralettes with trousers, Fendi chose a head to toe crochet-knit layering.

Stella McCartney created lace-like dresses with plunging necklines and accessorized in crochet too! Jonathan Cohen created a hap-hazard mix with different colours and stripe patterns, while Marni had a crochet layer over a silk dress with a loosely woven pattern and crocheted floral designs. Jonathan Simkhai had the ultimate summer vibe, with pastel shades, crochet dresses and tops.

Marco Rambaldi, one of our favourites this season, showcased his collection of patchwork crochet dresses with an unfinished touch. While Giambattista Valli too played with crochet bra tops paired with skirts, Altuzarra had slit-dresses and crochet tops over shirts. Call it cool workwear if you want, it was definitely the new work to party look!

Julien MacDonald played with fringes for her crochet, Ulla Johnson had the perfect wrap-a-round and thigh-high summer dress. Kate Spade, on the other hand, combined long crochet dresses over shirts, for a playful yet grown-up look. Gabriela Hearst, Salvatore Ferragamo, Celine, Jil Sander, Staud and Cinq a Sept too were just Some of the designers all ready for crochet O’ clock!

Two Loops & a Hoop!

After all the ramp love for crochet, the celebrities too were seen embracing this trend! While a crowd favourite for Bella Hadid and Dia Lipa, there was also Heidi Klum, Saoirse Ronan and Mary Lawless Lee flaunting this weave.

On the home ground too, Jhanvi Kapoor was gracing her crochet in Grazia while Priyanka Chopra had nailed all the beach vibes right! Malaika Arora and Katrina Kaif too were flaunting their summer looks in white and crochet this season!

The Crochet Collection

With all the talks of crocheting the future, we couldn’t stay behind now, could we? So we went ahead and took this handmade trend to another level with us! The level of gold! And also….diamonds! Cause how could we not?? Here’s what our designer has to say about the collection:

From sombre to fun, this season crochet was ‘not your grandmother’s crochet’ but more versatile & feminine. Inspired by the loose crochet knit, we’ve added diamonds on gold for a subtle yet happy-go-lucky vibe!
