This Spring Summer 2021, the digital surge is at its peak. Print and pattern are the key representatives of the SS’21 fashion season. The designers brought the vintage and gave us a class on Contemporary 101 to experience this dramatic vibe in all its high.

Combining new infusions of artisanal vintage aesthetics with global culture and heritage influences – the classic motifs and trends got new energy. The digital patterns trend this season is all about stylised motifs and wallpaper-like prints with a head-to-toe persona. From stark monochrome to vibrant & modern takes, patterns were all about colour play and surreal styling. Florals, chequered, abstract, monograms and universal, every print was up for grabs.
Colours Got Digital!
While 2020 has been all about quarantine and isolation, the idea this season speaks out for positivity and spreading the love, zeal in vibrant flashy hues. The pandemic isn’t over yet, but why don’t we switch over to fashion for some fun and games, huh? Ramps and runways this summer have placed a buffet of stripes, patchwork, checks, outer-space editions – All set to cheer you up.
Versace’s collection was a digital explosion of colours, portraying the message of the needed liveliness, perfectly. There was a prominent clash of prints and patterns on the ramps, paired with flirtatious pleated skirts.
While Halpern played with Polka dots, checks, and twin-shaded animal prints, Alice+Olivia went with all over flowers for a kitsch styling. With Maisie Wilen and Acne Studio’s outer world translations, the ramps saw every pattern possible! Staying true to its chic, feminine style, Missoni presented a charming interpretation of the brand’s graphic schemes. It combined slender silhouettes with a range of abstract patterns, layers and cuts.
Johanna Ortiz’s all-over flora & fauna patterns made a quintessential spring collection wholly rooted with a relaxed and elegant vibe.
Patterns Got Viral!
While there is nothing more energizing than trying out new patterns and styles, there’s definitely a thing about adding on some wardrobe essentials. With this classic-meets-spontenous play on mind, celebs all over the world were embracing this trend. Starting with Zoey Deschanel, who was flooring all possible animal, floral, chequered patterns – Oh the Summer mood! From Kerry Washington, Reese Witherspoon Lily Collins to Gigi Hadid, Lucy Hale, Jennifer Lopez and Demi Lovato – All were pattern-spired! Romee Strijd with the complete animal print dress was The look for day-to-night events. Meanwhile, Tracee Ellis Ross standing true to her never-ceasing fashion high with a pattern-all-over co-ord, was the vibe hard to let go of.
Kendal Jenner’s outfit was one of the best examples of an all-over geometric effect. With a twist to tweed, this head-to-toe style was the optical illusion to love, don and the cherry on top of the pattern pastry.
Patterns Back Home!
All-over prints and digital patterns was very visible on the Indian streets and red carpets too. With Alia Bhatt’s colourful patchwork patterned dress and all-over block prints – she was one of the trend initiators. Sonakshi Sinha and Bhumi Pednekar’s monochrome prints was another elegant take for all things casual! From Kavya Ajit, Nora Fatehi to Nupur Sanon and Sara Ali Khan, the get-up was all about digital drama!
