This season continues to be a wardrobe revamp in all their sleeve and shoulder ways. And it’s not even close to being done! From an off-shoulder trend to a powerful one, there’s a whole lot of shoulder play.
After playing with sleeves of voluminous sizes and styles, it was time to take on the shoulder with a gender-bending approach. Making a comeback, this trend is a mix of the 80s power suit and graceful feminine touches. Saint Laurent’s collection of both bright and black tones included a touch of grace and drama with cinched waistlines. While on the other hand, Rich Owens dramatic curved shoulders gave a new meaning to power coats.
Look at Me Shoulders
Exaggerated, extravagant and edgy was the shoulders theme this autumn-winter, making workwear, not just functional but also eye-catchy. With androgynous structures, cutwork, puff sleeves and shoulder pads, there was a whole range of power shoulders to look at. Givenchy’s ramp looks brought forward nostalgia mixed with essentials of today in tweed and bolero jackets, while Alexander McQueen added ruffles and floral designs to power suits – Talk about Feminine Power. Fendi too, played with power shoulders balanced out with big bows, high collars and colour blocking that presented a new persona of the bold shoulder.
Many other designers like Marc Jacobs, Prabal Gurung, Balmain, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga to name a few, also took part in this end-of-gender trend. With a confident, authoritative look, it was all about work this season.
She Means Business
The celebs too were all set for business this season with their versions of power dress-ups. From Priyanka Chopra’s movie promotion look to Anushka Sharma’s oh-so-edgy suit, it was all about the femme fatale. Dakota Johnson and Cate Blanchett nailed the sequin+power that was making us swoon. While Elizabeth Olsen’s had us floored with her printed, sheen and dreamy pair up. From Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, Tailor Swift to Maria Sharapova, Emma Watson, Kirti Kulhari and Kalki, it was surely time to power up!
