Spring has arrived and we’re beating the sun with all things sheer, tropical and absolutely beachy. And our designers couldn’t be more excited for this trip down California lane! Are you ready for the vibe of the season?
If you’ve been dreaming of a beach vacay for the longest time, the fashion runways are here to your rescue. That too, quite literally. With one of the last shows of Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel created the perfect beach theme for their Spring Summer 2019 collection. With whites and abstract prints in multi-coloured hues, it was surely time to bring out the straw hats and get the feel of warm sand under your feet. Adding to the beach air were beaded accessories, tote bags and stacked up bracelets that could make anyone reminisce or plan a future adventure.
While Chanel was creating the beach, there were others not far behind with their depictions of all things California. With the theme set on California Girl, it was a blend of all colours, prints and textures that amounted to the Insanely Cool. And we’re not even exaggerating! Going ahead with this zest of colours and prints, Etro went all-aboard (quite literally) with their collection. Combining the skating and surfing scene of California with the denim and calligraphies of Japan, the Pacific and Hawaii, it was a colour shock of the beachfront. Walking down the Etro runways were two female surfers with beachy hair, neoprene swimsuits, paisley printed boards and wide smiles that tied together the show that was ‘breaking waves ‘.
California State of Mind
Raf Simons, the Calvin Klein designer, couldn’t hold back from the uber-cool Etro show and created his own line inspired by the showstoppers. An ode to Jaws and swimwear, Calvin Klein created a mishmash of T-shirts, unpeeling wetsuits, tie-dye and palm prints that said ‘ALOHA’ loud and clear! With renditions of beads & seashell accessories, multi-hued hats and denim short, the global runways were surely exploding with colour.
With Chloe’s knot belts, choker neckpieces, fringes on caftans and sea shell danglers, one thing was sure. That Spring Summer 2019’s biggest trend was here. While Michael Kors was going gaga over multi-hued print skirts and black lace, Sportsmax was all about sea prints, sarongs and neoprene shorts and leggings. On the other hand, Marina Serre decided to dazzle us with a multitude of upcycled fabrics. Ranging from fleece blankets, old Star Trek tees to neoprene fabric and fishing vests, her show was the reality check in an aspirational world – and sometimes that’s exactly what we need.
To Beach or Not to Beach?
The designers around the globe were reminding us of all things blue, calm and palm, so how could the celebs say no to this balmy beach vibe? And the Indian big shots were also ready for their beach-vacay-mode in full grandeur. From Priyanka Chopra and Jacqueline’s ‘Ready for the sun’ look to Dia Mirza’s floral yet fiery chic, there was a lot of ‘heat’ this summer.
