SS ’20: The Call of the White Swan #JustIn

White makes a comeback this season, in all its pure and fearless forms. From feather additions to lacework, Spring Summer 2020 is kicking off with promising vibes!

In a clean, fresh and pure hue, Pantone called Brilliant White the new demure colour of the season. And we were definitely on board with that! While designers took various routes of drama, fantasy and even sustainability, one thing was clear. White was the colour of the brave in the new fashion world.

Falling under the Macro Trend of Fantasy World, this season white is looking towards the future in all it’s rebellious & peace-loving ways. While Richard Quinn’s runway backdrop unveiled the new world in dreamy lace gowns and face masks, Cecilie Bahnsen’s combined classic tailoring to lace whites and sheer fabrics. Standing true to the season’s pitch, it’s all about being serene in a fierce way.

Head to Toe Whiteout

Although the White shade has always been connoted with peace, grace and serenity, this season, there was a contrast. Showcasing the fearlessness of white and the idea of non-violent movements, White took a different route. From Greta Thunberg to Malala, women are taking charge all over the world and protesting with ahimsa in their minds. Another reference for this trend – The movie Black Swan. Showcasing the dual sides of the female protagonist in both its calm and fierce state, it could easily be the inspiration behind the trend.

Following this theme, designers showcased the two personalities of women, and that too, in all the whites. From structured gowns with black belts at Alexander McQueen, Off-White’s calm and summer feel to Bailuyu’s harmony of minimalism and sheers, White had a nature-friendly vibe going on this season. Christian Dior too presented a sheer lace dress and a feather-filled coat attires for a summer-full-of-whites kinda vibe. Gabriela Hearst’s collection included panels and black lace additions showing off the trend in all its contrast.

One of our favourite collections, Dries van Noten created a literal show of Black Swan with feather hair accessories and partial black and white attires in ruffles, layers and whatnots. Valentino believed in total whiteout this season and embraced white like no one else. From ruffles, puffed sleeves, feathers, to sheer gowns, lacework and even white-tees, white had all the selection it could dream of. Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood, Michael Cinco and Louis Vuitton too, were on the white bandwagon ready to rebel in all its purity.

After the runway revolt, celebs too were ready to help the cause in their demure forms. From Lizzo and Dakota Johnson to Naomi Watts, Vanessa Hudgens and Dua Lipa, celebs were crushing the red carpet, even more so, with their white pairings. On the homefront too, celebrities like Nora Fatehi, Jhanvi Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Mia Matangi, were all set to slay in their versions of White.
