Childhood dreams, dramatic youth…our latest trend inspiration is a throwback to the days gone by! A little nostalgia and a lot of Doll drama, here’s what’s new!
A significant theme for Autumn-Winter 2020/21 was Childhood that depicted the aspiration of returning back to the innocence, the fun ad the demure of being a young woman. From a biker look to Victorian-styled dolls, it was a game of style, and there was no wrong way!
This trend had its roots set into the styles of the British monarchy and the Victorian styles. With corsets, Madame Pompadour inspired outfits – frills and ruffles were synonymous to this trend. After all the romantic renaissance affair, Goth took a turn for dolls during the 1990s. With a mysterious vibe and black additions, there was a doll dress-up for all looks.
Dreamy Dolls
All the love for Dolls was visible on the ramps and runways. One of the shows that created the perfect Barbie look was Moschino. From pink panniers to denim ones, it was an ode to modern meets Renaissance. With frills, corsets, bows and thigh-high boots, there were also sky-high hairstyles and gloves to complete the look. If Moschino was Barbie, Gucci was all sorts of Victorian. With floor-sweeping gowns, lace add-ons and of course, layers of folds, it was the perfect depiction of the past.
Carolina Herrera’s collection was an ode to the childhood femininity. With bright hues and bold prints, it was the sunshine look that was Childhood. Full of play and no work! Now that’s something to get on-board for. Elie Saab too went ahead with an elegant femme fatale look. Including lacework, polka dots and sheer fabrics, it was the pretty-little-girl look. Zimmerman’s collection had all the ruffles and closed necklines.
JW Anderson took a more lateral route for this trend with bow ties, ruffles and multi-print layers, while on the other hand, Louis Vuitton took a mod route with sheer layers and suit pairings. Simone Rocha added sheet layers over prints, while MSGM had peter pan collar, lace-over-tees and babydoll dresses. Richard Quinn staying true to himself, played with puffed sleeves, print clashes and short print dresses.
Doll Drama
The celebs too were all set to tune into the trend with their own style mantras. From Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga’s doll video look to Lupita Nyongo’s award-winning outfit, the doll was trending all across.
On the home ground too, stars like Chitragda, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kriti Sanon and Sayani Gupta, were out with their doll dresses and in all styles also!
