Taking on the famous Tom Cruise quote of ‘Cocktails & Dreams’, there’s a whole lot of drama in the air! And we couldn’t get enough. There’s a new inspiration in town, the evening suit!
After all the glitz, glamour and OTT vibes, there was also the causal knits, checks and greys for all. But the takeaway from it all were suits for all occasions. After flowy trends and prints, there was an overarching theme this season. Structured, sophisticated and classics make a comeback this season in all its elegant vibes. And this time around, it’s an evening wear option too!
Suit Up
Gone are the days of suits being an officewear attire Only. This Autumn-Winter season, suits are also for casuals and parties too. In all it’s vibrant colours, prints and a lot of layers, the cocktail suit has all the pros. Making a three-piece suit both relaxed yet statement, designers had a whole lotta room to play. From pantsuit to skirt suit, Tibi had vibrant tones in checks and satin fabrics while Dolce & Gabbana played along with prints and structured, layered tones that were making us go gaga. It wasn’t just about the bling anymore – but doing so sophisticatedly.
This trend also gave some points to the monotone suit. It wasn’t just about going with the sober tones, but experimenting with your own colours. Alexander McQueen’s collection presented several two-toned blazers (highlight: the red and black contrast suit) while Erdem showcased an all-green pantsuit with minimal embroidery, giving it a feminine touch. Acne Studios had a thing for all things grey while Hugo Boss stuck to beige for a subtle look. Now that’s the right kind of mix we all need. Givenchy, Lemaire, Ralph Lauren and Valentino were some of the other designers working on their suit versions.
Suits in the Limelight
Suits were a big hit on all the red carpets after their ramp takeover. Since Celine Dion has been on a rampage, she wasn’t going to let suits behind! Going red head-to-toe in a turtleneck, there were new holiday goals set for us. Red and Green proved to be the colour choices of the season with Angela Bassett following suit (pun intended) in a red-white combo. From Shilpa Shetty’s green pantsuit to Regina King’s green glam, the Green takeover was blowing us away. Priyanka Chopra, Janhvi Kapoor, Diana Penty and even Victoria Beckham, were all set with their cocktail suits.
