Winter has finally arrived, just like Game of Thrones and we’re all set to conquer the winter, that too, in a new trend! A version of tweed that took over all the ramps and also hearts, it’s all about the Houndstooth weave this season.
Winter means layering up, long sleeves, high-necks and thicker fabrics. Given we don’t want to get out of bed, but then there are responsibilities that we Just Can’t ditch. So even though we’ll still be layering up, it doesn’t mean it can’t be as per the latest fashion trend! Adding on the new print cum weave of the season, it’s time for the houndstooth to take over – that too in all it’s monochrome tones.
Tweed Treat
A part of the Tweed stream, AW 19/20 kicked off with Chanel celebrating the last collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld. A tribute that led many eyes to be welled up, the houndstooth was the storyteller. With a snow-clad atmosphere, Chanel gave winter wardrobe goals to everyone. From long coats, skirts, jumpsuits to hats and patchwork print, the tweed rage was visible all across. While Chanel was showcasing their winter wonderland, Area was all about standing out. With bralettes, tassels skirts and even shoes, there was a casual colourful air as compared to the black and white workflow created by Chanel.
Talking about women empowerment and portrayed as a symbol of unity, the houndstooth tweed saw a blend of retro vibes and slight masculine structures. Balmain’s construction of capes and blazers with power shoulders were a true testament to that. While Dolce and Gabbana’s patchwork houndstooth plus head-to-toe looks had just the right amount of feminine additions. Prabal Gurung’s addition of lacework surely added the made-for-women factor while Gucci took the androgynous route. From Victoria Beckham’s colourful work pair-ups with vibrant boots-tone to Veronica Beard’s tweed-knit pairing, there was an entire range to pick from.
The Celebrity Winter Weave
Embracing the new sophisticated look, celebrities were all set to add this winter weave to their closets. From Zendaya’s head-to-toe vibrant tweed to Gwen Stefani’s oh-so-cool skirt-jacket combo, they were all set to show off their versions of tweed. Emma Watson to Bella Hadid, there were jacket pairings and even beret pairing to go for this season. Cardi B broke the internet with her head-to-toe tweed look of the season. Katie Holmes, Priyanka Chopra, Winnie Harlow, Disha Patani, and Radhika Apte to name a few were all set with their winter look.
