SS ’20: The Future is Armour! #TrendAlert

After bodysuits and flowy gowns, there was just one essential missing – An armour! With all the metal hues of gold & silver, this trend brings in the new princess attire.

Binge on all things metallic this season, without a care in the world! The new solid shade for all-things-glamourous, the sparkle ain’t too much this season. So if you’re about the sparkle, this is the season for you. With a new take on 80’s melted gold and silver looks, it’s all about a futuristic goddess look. The armour for the powerful woman, saving the world.

Armour Adapts

In case you missed it, Jean-Paul Gaultier presented his final show, bidding farewell to a 50-year career with his Spring 2020 collection. And he did so with a spectacle! Bringing back metallic pants and corsets, it was an ode to the armours of today. Balenciaga, on the other hand, took a more feminine route, with bows, ball gowns and thigh-high slits (talk about a party attire).

Since Dior was all about women ruling the world, the ramp goddesses had the perfect golden touch going on for them. In gladiator-style fringe outfits and Lamé fabric’s patchwork skirts and pantsuits, there was a whole lotta gold combined with modern silhouettes. Paco Rabanne picked up silver as his colour of choice and added textures and prints for the perfect Disco look. All matched up with printed boots and white shoes too.

Oscar de la Renta called for the Goddess-inside with flowy gowns and pleated textures. The highlight? Ashley Graham’s Vogue cover shoot that definitely made her seem like a Goddess, hands down. Balmain and Christian Siriano too added a modern touch to this trend with skirts, tights, holographic coats and whatnots.  JW Anderson was an amalgamation of gold and silver with patchwork dresses and pantsuits, while Julien Macdonald redefined skimpy with feathers, fringes and halter-necks. Talk about combining summer and metallic!

The Invincible Women

After all the metal love visible on the ramps, the celebrities were lining up to try out this trend, and right in time for Awards season! While Charlize Theron went for Dior for red carpet vibe, Nicky Hilton went for an Oscar de la Renta’s adapt. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez went in two shades of metal for their Superbowl performance. And Alicia Keys took a Versace number to showcase her graceful side.

If Hollywood was on fire, our home ground wasn’t too far behind. Diana Penty’s silver jacket and wet-head look was totally spring, while Malaika’s stunning metal pink was a hue to remember. Anushka Sharma flaunted her power-vibe with a textured gown and puff sleeves. Kriti Sanon was about the fun casuals, while Norah Fatehi’s shirt and trouser combo held all the party vibes you’ll need for the season. Rakul Preet too was seen flaunting a thigh-high slit and drapes for the perfect red carpet outfit.
