There’s a new floral trend in town and this time it’s not about being romantic or rebellious, but about running in the wilderness – free. And also, letting the Dandelions float with the breeze!
We’re getting all poetic here with this new trend that reminds us of Sound of Music, Wuthering Heights and all things nature. This Spring Summer 2020, florals took a turn towards the unmanicured and self-growing wildflowers. With ditsy prints in all colours and textures, the ramps were reminding us of prairie flowers and all the wild ones we find in our garden.
Ramp Blossoms
From digital prints, embroidery, to craft and crochet, there was Everything you’d hope to see on the Christian Dior show. Poppies, Daisies, and Daffodils donned the show in all Earthy colours and silhouettes. That too, from a pantsuit, trench coats and even dresses! With trees and plants setting up the natural environment, it was like a visit to the park. Giambattista Valli took a more different approach to it. With drooping shoulders and flowy pastel dresses, there was a day look to don. While on the other hand, florals were adorning the black shade with tules and feather additions.
Alexander McQueen blew up the florals in massive proportions and combined it with broad belts. Also, including golden and silver ferns and flowers, there were a lot of day/evening looks that we could easily imagine on the red carpets. Dries Van Noten’s collection was the brightest of them all! From shorts, dresses, to skirts and jackets, there was a whole lotta floral to go around. Marc Jacobs went on a floral march with a retro vibe, while Prabal Gurung added metallic to the print.
Marni’s collection had a painted feel to his collection with outlines and partial colourings. Paco Rabanne too added boots to Daisy culottes and included mini-dresses that took us back to the past. From Stella McCartney’s very beachy vision, Zimmermann’s flowy florals to Chloe’s micro-floral smocked prairie dresses, it was a flower fest!
Wild At Heart
After all the floral love seen on the ramps, the celebrities too were all set to flaunt this trend. From Mindy Kaling’s Vanity Fair look to Chloe Bennet, Nathalie Emmanuel and Rachel Brosnahan’s red carpet outfits, the jovial vibe was evident. Kerry Washington and Julia Louis-Dreyfus too flaunted their floral looks in Marc Jacobs styling. One of our favourites – Olga Kurylenko’s Elie Saab outfit, In head-to-toe shades of blue and flowers all over, it was the perfect day outfit.
On the home ground too, celebs were sharing their elegant and fun looks. From Katrina Kaif’s daisy-filled, sun-kissed outfit, Diana Penty’s summer dress to Shraddha Kapoor’s skirt play, the wildflower print was having its day in the sun. Deepika Padukone too was all set to dance in floral pants, while Taapsee Pannu had a colourful floret jacket to add on.
