AW 19/20: The Knits in Shining Armour! #FridayRefresh

Winter has set in and with it, our wardrobes are changing massively and so are the ramps! After all the colour pop and OTT things, it’s time for some super-cosy, homely and supersized vibes. Can you guess the trend?

Supersized was the call of the runways after all the work and party needs were satisfied. In oversized forms and chunky weaves, knitwear took over all casual wear in all its grandeur. The supersized knits fashion took the front row when Lenny Kravitz stepped out with his shawl cum blanket scarf. The internet exploded, and so did the fashion trend. From cutwork to oversized sweaters, ponchos to colour-blocked knits, there was a whole lotta knit to see!

Knit, Knit Everywhere…

Designers were all set to dazzle us with their knit interpretations, and of course, they didn’t let us down. M Missoni’s collection gave us serious knit goals with their ribbed weave styling and cardigans that reminded us of the days gone by, while Molly Goddard paired argyle knits with flared skirts for a winter layering vibe. If you’re looking for the OTT knit, Anrealage is the way to go. The collection comprised of knit wraps and sweaters with enormous weaves that you can probably Netflix and chill in, or basically, set-up-camp in for the weekend.

MSGM’s dual colour coat and the checkered knit look was a complete takeover while Sacai gave us double knit clothing unlike ever seen before. Sacai’s pre-fall collection consisted of patchwork knits and straight dresses that reminded us of flowy summer dresses (but with the warmth of course). Proenza Schouler and Eckhaus Latta’s collection also comprised of cutwork patterns in multi-coloured knitwear while Dion Lee took a more black-white approach. Area with its tassels, Tibi with single ribbed knits, JW Anderson with jumbo knits and Gabriela Hearst with colour-blocking, it was a whole new ballgame of knits.

Knit Knights

After the ramp takeover, knits weren’t too far behind in being accepted by celebrities. The ultimate casual wear for practically all occasions, knitwear could be seen everywhere. From Bella Hadid’s ramp look at Isabel Marant to Camila Cabello’s all-white attire, white knitwear was definitely in. Kendall Jenner’s all black, but smiley sweater also won smiles (pun intended), Saoirse Ronan’s on TV look was super-cazh. On the home front, celebs of the likes of Aditi Rao Hydari, Katrina Kaif, Kriti Sanon and Parineeti Chopra were all set with their version of knits in casual.
